Budding AgTech Entrepreneurs Visit WGCIT

Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology is again bridging the global agtech gap! Eight entrepreneurs from across Eastern Europe visited the WGCIT on April 11 to glean information about developing their agtech brand. The visitors, who are all founders of early-stage agtech companies, toured Silicon Valley hoping to get guidance on how to help their budding enterprises grow.

“The reality is such that many tech entrepreneurs in Europe are less exposed to business, product and market skills compared to their U.S. counterparts,” said Max Gurvits, director of Cross Border Angels, the investor group that organized the tour. “We are trying to bridge that gap and help them excel in fields they have had less exposure to.”

Shaping the Next Generation of AgTech Leaders

ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, visited the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology (WGCIT) yesterday to learn how technological innovations can be used to tackle food system challenges.

Twenty students from Switzerland, Spain, Philippines, Germany, U.S. and China toured the Center and connected with some of the most notable leaders in the Salinas area. Former Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue, WGCIT Consultant Lisa Dobbins, Food Origins’ Nathan Dorn and the Mixing Bowl’s Rob Trice spoke about the problems farmers and the ag industry face every day and the types of technology that is being developed to solve those issues.

TECH TALK: Perfecting Your Packing Solutions with specright

There’s no denying that packaging is a critical part of each step in the supply chain. Without packaging, the system would break down.

“In agriculture—especially in produce—everything is packaged,” said Adam Armstrong, VP Business Development at specright. “As a spec moves along the packaging chain, there can be missing or inaccurate information. So that’s where Specright comes in and changes the packaging world.”

specright hosted a Tech Talk at the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology (WGCIT) on April 5, enlightening 30 professionals—from growers and packers to shippers and IT specialists—about their innovative packaging solution.
