Last week, I gave an overview of our crop monitoring and yield forecasting technology during one of the PMA Tech Knowledge "Lightning Learning Labs." During the Labs, entrepreneurs were each given 7 minutes to present their solutions and field questions from the audience—and we loved every minute of it.
It was a great chance to get in front of potential customers and other entrepreneurs, give them a taste of what we're offering and get immediate feedback. The audience asked good questions, and several folks came up afterwards to continue the discussion. This included other startups with complementary technology. Increasingly, we are seeing opportunities in teaming with other new companies.

The Western Growers Center for Innovation and Technology represented in full force during the PMA Tech Knowledge Conference in Santa Clara on May 17-19, 2016. Eleven of the 15 residents from the Center participated in various sessions of the conference, enlightening audience members about their latest agtech innovations.

The promise of imagery and analytics in agriculture is a hot topic for growers, investors and start-ups. On May 16, 45 people joined a Salinas AgTech Meetup panel to learn more about the ways that aerial imagery has the potential to detect crop stress, predict yield and reduce labor costs.
