On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, the October Tech Talk® was recorded live from the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology in Salinas, featuring resident startup SWIIM System. Kevin France, CEO, Board Member, and Co-Founder of SWIIM system was onsite at The Center. France leads business development and operating strategies at Regenesis Management Group, a leading ag-tech incubator that developed the underlying technology driving the SWIIM platform. Also on-hand for the Tech Talk® was Dave Puglia, Executive Vice President of Western Growers, and Board Member of SWIIM System.

Six Startups Set to Compete in Western Growers AgTech Innovation Arena

IRVINE, Calif. (October 19, 2016) – Western Growers (WG) has chosen the final six start-up companies who will be competing for invaluable resources to support their growing businesses and advance the development of their innovative technologies that will be crucial to the sustainability of agriculture.

Nearly 50 startup companies applied to compete in this year’s Innovation Arena, more than doubling last year’s total of 20 applicants. After being carefully reviewed by WG’s Food Safety/Science & Technology Subcommittee, six were selected and will now advance to compete at the 91st WG Annual Meeting on November 8, 2016, in Hawaii.

Resident Programming at The Center: Casual Wednesday October

The Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology hosted our first “Casual Wednesday” this week. With two extra special guests—Kate Hitchcock, Harvest Manager at Mesa Packing, and Colby Pereira, Food Safety Manager for Costa Farms—our startups were able to ask local growers questions about their farming, harvesting, planning, and food safety practices. By way of introduction, Hank Giclas, Senior Vice President Science & Technology at Western Growers, discussed the mission behind The Center and our AgTech startups.
